Anal Gland Removal

Anal glands are paired glands located in each side of the anus. Most common reason to remove anal glands is recurrent infections. The procedure results in instant relieve of pain and the recurrent use of antibiotics. Another reason to remove anal glands is cancer. Apocrine gland anal sac adenocarcinoma is a malignant tumor that can commonly spread in the abdomen so through staging is required before surgery. Abdominal ultrasound, full blood work and thoracic x-rays are indicated before surgery in case of cancer of the anal gland. Anal gland removal due to recurrent infections has a set fee of NOK 20 000,- and includes IV catheter, general anesthesia, pre- and post-op pain medication and collar which has to be used for 2 weeks, until suture removal. Not included in this fee is any follow up appointments as most clients choose to have these done at their local veterinarian. Surgical fee of anal gland removal due to cancer will depend on how extensive surgery will have to be.
